THE DYNAMICS OF SOCIAL BEHAVIOR IN ACEH - A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS BEFORE AND AFTER EID AL-FITR

Abstract This study examines the distinct patterns of social behavior observed among the Acehnese population in the period before and after the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. Drawing on historical records, ethnographic observations, and qualitative interviews, this paper seeks to understand how ritualistic, religious, and socio-cultural factors shape communal practices during this significant Islamic festival. The analysis reveals that while the period preceding Eid al-Fitr is characterized by heightened anticipation, communal preparation, and ritual purification, the aftermath is marked by introspection, a return to everyday activities, and subtle shifts in individual and collective behaviors. Through a detailed investigation of traditions, economic impacts, and family dynamics, this paper contributes to the wider body of literature on Islamic festivities in Southeast Asia, with a specific focus on Aceh’s unique social fabric.
